Meditation and Playful Yoga in Education – An Integrative Approach

β€œWhen men are healthy, society will also be healthy.” – Professor JosΓ© Hermogenes

Meditation is being aware of each moment of life, it is a practice that relieves mental, emotional, physical tensions, decreases the production of the stress hormone, improves cognitive patterns and reduces symptoms or signs of attention deficit.

Yoga is science, art and philosophy, a path to self-education, through the integration of mind, body and emotions, one of the oldest practices in the East, declared on December 1, 2016 Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO (UN).

When children, youth and adults are inspired to know and experience these integrative practices in educational environments, socio-emotional skills and competences are expanded.

The quality of human interactions gains more meaning, empathy, the feeling of belonging, personal, social and cultural identity are more recognized and valued.

The school or educational environment becomes more welcoming, peaceful and loving, conflicting situations can arise and are resolved with greater dialogue and empathic listening.

The experiences provided by the practice of meditation and yoga in education promote an integral view of the learner, recognizing their knowledge, rhythm and skills.

Learning to take care of oneself, the body, human relationships, the environment, explore creativity, develop a greater state of concentration, reduce thoughts and feelings of anxiety, fear or shyness, are some of the results achieved with students, educators and managers.

Quality education needs to value the health and well-being of all actors involved in the educational process, promoting knowledge and practices for self-development and self-care.
