How does amnesia happen?

According to traditional medicine, amnesia is a memory disorder. It can be partial, when the individual temporarily does not remember his past, or total, when there is no longer any possibility of recovering the memories.

This disorder is usually caused by degenerative neurological diseases or by experiences with trauma, alcohol, drugs and accidents where the head is affected.

Upon noticing the symptoms of memory damage, a doctor should be consulted. After detecting the cause of amnesia, the patient can start treatments that help to deal with the problem, such as cognitive rehabilitation. Modifying some everyday habits can also help overcome memory loss.



In terms of Body Language, Cristina Cairo, a psychologist and specialist in Chinese Medicine and Oriental Philosophy, states in her text from the book “Language of the Body: A Cura pelo Amor”, by Barany Editora, the psychological meanings of amnesia and gives some tips to strengthen your memory.

Amnesia according to Cristina Cairo:

Amnesia is a defense mechanism of the unconscious, to protect us from painful memories or even situations that we no longer have satisfaction in reliving.

According to Freud, we live by the pleasure principle, that is, unconsciously, we are always seeking pleasure in everything, even through an apparent misfortune or a deep pain that we carry in life situations, behind the scenes, we are having some pleasure. Otherwise, we would not submit and instinctively look for a way to escape the conflict.

You must be thinking that if this is true, then the human being is a masochist. In reality, when a person suffers and remains in suffering, no matter how much advice he receives to get out of this situation, it is because his unconscious is getting a subtle pleasure such as someone's compassion, attention from loved ones, financial profits from disability, quiet, people around all the time, covering up loneliness, etc. These pleasures are also known as 'secondary gains'.



When amnesia starts to manifest, it is due to dissatisfaction with the type of life the person is leading.

The real joy and pleasure in being with someone or realizing their dreams makes our memory stronger, because the brain only registers what the person has given full attention to, due to personal interest. Even when lacunar amnesia occurs, that is, temporary forgetfulness due to some accident or emotional trauma, it means escape from the situation.

Alzheimer's disease is a process of rigidity to not accept the loss of control over someone or some situation that has escaped his control.
