Yoga helps relieve back pain and leads to lifestyle change

    As we study our subtle body, we know that the spine is the structure that contains our main energy centers, the seven chakras. It is what sustains our body and our upright posture. An aligned spine has benefits for breathing and reveals a lot about our health. In times so accelerated by technologies and excess work, we forget to align the spine. We work hunched over at the computer, without realizing our body, our breathing. Result? One in five adults in Espaรฑa has chronic back pain. (IBGE, 2020).



    When I was training as a yoga instructor, I led a project with teachers and employees of a school in Spain. I passed the anamnesis questionnaire and received back reports in 80% of the files about back, neck and shoulder pain. The tension and stress of the work routine were already manifested in the body. Of course, a medical consultation is essential to know the causes and treatments, but remember that medicines relieve pain, but the effect wears off. A lifestyle change is needed. Yes, yoga teachers are not doctors, but they do lead proven practices where conscious movement and a change in philosophy of life can ward off discomfort from the body and mind.

    The most common pain in the back region is lower back pain. It is the second biggest cause of visits to doctors, second only to headache. The problem affects more than 80% of the world's population, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO). Stimulating spine flexibility is essential, and above all, strengthening the region. The so-called "core" is the muscle group that stabilizes the pelvis, pelvis and abdomen. The stronger it is, the less it will require straining the spine, ensuring a quality of life and delaying degeneration.

    To relieve or prevent back, neck and shoulder pain, therefore, yoga postures focused on the spine and abdomen encourage strengthening and energy flow. In fact, it is in the region of the abdomen, just above the navel, that the solar chakra, Manipura, is related to the power of transformation and willpower. It is the center of our emotional being. In such accelerated times, it is time to realize that changing our lifestyle requires observing our body, perceiving our mind, nourishing our soul and carrying out our transformation of being.
