Unhappiness at work. What to do?

According to USP psychologist Cristiane Moraes Pertusi, those who work happily manage to have greater productivity at work and at the same time feel more fulfilled in the area they chose. But 80% of the Spanish population say they feel unhappy at work. There are several reasons that can make you unhappy at work: Working only for money (without having an affinity with the area in which you are), inflexible hours, low pay, late payment, professional (and personal) problems with the boss, lack of time for yourself and the family and a lot of demand.

Unhappiness at work. What to do?Some of these problems can be resolved in person in the office itself, but most of them do not have such a solution. According to the psychologist, professional dissatisfaction begins in youth, and is increasingly present in the lives of young people: โ€œThey are forced to decide too soon, and the profession does not always please them. In the 30s to 40s, dissatisfaction can increase due to a lack of recognition and motivation,โ€ she explains. And this could increase more and more and reach young people much sooner than expected. Allan Fernando Lima Lopes, responsible for the Human Resources area at Soar Desenvolvimento Humano (Santos โ€“ SP), adds that: โ€œThe new generation lives a culture of instant information. Communication in the corporate world still follows the e-mail model, in which it is necessary to wait for hours for a response from your customer, supplier or other department. And the career models proposed by companies also create difficulties for the new generation, which wants rapid growth and without much bureaucracyโ€. But not everything is lost. The best way to resolve this professional dissatisfaction is to try to identify the reason for being this way and then take courage and try to find a solution. A new specialization? A new job? A course? Turn your hobby into a profession?

Maybe you like your job and you're just tired of the routine, so it's good to try to see the challenges that are offered to you in a positive way:

โ€“ Relationship problems with co-workers can be seen as a way to exercise tolerance and communication. Try to get closer to those you have the most affinity with, and strengthen ties.

โ€“ Try to consider the impact that a certain project will have on your career in the medium and long term, think about the positive points it will bring you. Think about the meaning that job will have on your life as a whole.

โ€“ Dedicate yourself to one task at a time, within the deadlines.

If this is not the reason for your dissatisfaction, consider changing jobs. Do you want to leave the profession or do you also want to change careers, do something new? It is good to think and analyze some points:

    -Is specialization necessary?

โ€“ Are you able to support yourself during the transition from one job to another? Or would it be better to make a gradual change?

โ€“ Will this impact your lifestyle?

If you don't change your mind, it's time to know the next steps: What are your favorite activities? What is your professional profile? Is there a hobby that can become a profession? What skill will be useful on this new journey of yours? โ€“ Do you have an unfinished English course? Now is the time to go back.

If you want more expert advice, look for a career coach. The coach has the ability to see how the professional can improve activities within the area in which he is already inserted.

Think carefully if the reason for your dissatisfaction is not the salary. If so, don't despair and don't complain without doing anything. Look for courses and specializations that can add and bring quality to your resume, so it will be possible to compete for vacancies with higher salary ranges. Look for what will cheer you up and don't give up on your personal and professional satisfaction.
