He was the first man to visit space! The 27-year-old Soviet cosmonaut on April 12, 1961 made a simple trip into space. Gus Grissom

Grissom nearly died by drowning on the landing of his first mission, which took place on July 21, 1961, when the spacecraft crashed into the ocean. Alan Bean
