The correct way to care for your orchids

Caring for orchids may seem like an easy task, but there are a few ways to keep them in perfect condition and maintain their longevity. We separate some tips that can be of great help:

1 – Grow them in a clay pot: clay pots are more porous and drain water better, thus preventing root rot.

2 - Vessel limit: always keep two fingers away from the surface. It is the most recommended.

3 – Repair the new shoots: when changing the vase, check if the orchids have new buds. They must be free and never leaning against the wall of the vase.

4 – Add pine knots or wooden boards to the plant: the substrates conserve water for a longer period of time, in addition to leaving the vase decorated.

5 – Sterilize the scissors before pruning the plant: use a portable torch or the stove's own flame. Attention: the instrument must cool down before use. When using the tool on another plant, remember to sterilize it to prevent disease transmission.

6 – After pruning, apply a healing agent: Cinnamon powder is the most suitable because it is a natural healing agent.

7 – Watch out for foliage stains: if it shows stains, it may be an indication of some pest on the plant. Use liquid detergent diluted in water and wash all leaves and roots.

8 – Do not use the same vase after eliminating pests: exchange for a new container.

9 – Pay attention to the coloring of the foliage: if it is dark, it may indicate a lack of light. Just move the orchid around.

10 – Identify the orchids with plaques: note the species name and the period of its last flowering.

We hope that with these tips you can take better care of your orchids. Good luck!
