Is there an age limit to start dating? And if there were, who would determine what age that is, the person himself or his children?
I want to share part of the story of a woman, mother and widow that I served. A 62-year-old woman who works five days a week, she still takes care of her own home, does volunteer work on the weekend and studies. It is worth mentioning that she is always in a good mood and wanting to learn something more and still helps her adult children financially.
Everything was fine with her relationship with her children, until she decided to tell them that she wanted to get a boyfriend. Their discomfort was visible, but no one took what the mother was saying so seriously, not least because a 62-year-old woman wouldn't be able to have a boyfriend, they thought. Even so, they were always asking where and with whom their mother had been.
Until the day she revealed to her children that she had made a choice between the suitors for a boyfriend and that she was dating. She was more concerned about the reaction of her son who always scolded her saying that she was too old to date. However, to her surprise when she told her son, who initially was neutral, but days later was already supporting her. While the daughters, from whom she expected complete understanding, acceptance and encouragement, were against it. “What do you want to date for at such an age? Calm down, put that fire down.”
With Kinesiology we are working to keep your self-esteem and self-love high, and to understand and accept that their daughters have a different opinion from theirs, and even so keep going with their relationship, after all, the couple is happy: “When we met, he was discouraged, lifeless. Today we talk a lot, we go to the park and laugh, people even stop to watch us, it's as if we've come back to shine, we're full of life and this has caught the attention of those who see us”.
Faced with this situation, questions arise such as: Is there an age limit for dating, loving and being happy? How far can children have an opinion on their mother's love life? And of the father, would they have the same opinion? The mother needs the children's permission to date
