In this article I will address the two types of world we can choose to live in: the real and the illusory.
The illusory world (no doubt about it) is where we spend most of our lives. We are part of it when we idealize ourselves, the other and life.
When we put our happiness outside of ourselves, expecting external objects to satisfy our needs for recognition and security, we live in illusion. When we hope and “believe” that the other is to blame for all our problems and that he is the one who has to change, we live in illusion. When we give ourselves in time, materially and financially and expect the other to give us back and applaud us, we live in illusion.
When we continue in relationships that hurt us only for gains, whether financial, security, social status, or because we are halves to the point of not being happy without someone, we live in illusion. When we spend a whole day without being able to contemplate a flower, an animal or a human being, we live in illusion. When we are focused on what has passed and what will come, we live in illusion.
But then, what is real?
The real is different from everything I've written so far. In the real world our happiness can only be achieved by ourselves. In the real world we do not have control over the other's change, but over our own. In this real world, only we are responsible for what happens to us.
In the real world true love is what is given without expecting anything in return, since happiness is in the act of giving.
In the real world we are not dependent on the applause and safety of others.
In the real world we stay in real relationships, focused on the love we feel for the other and not on the “advantages” that the relationship can offer us.
And finally, in the real world we use our five senses of love to live in the present, which is the only time when we can be happy. And we thank God and life for the daily opportunities to make us whole.
