Astrological signs and myths: Scorpio

Scorpio: October 22 to November 21

Scorpio is the eighth zodiacal sign, the one that relentlessly dissolves material things and human consciousness, marking the autumn of the northern hemisphere. The days become shorter and Nature begins the journey towards the dissolution of all forms and substances, marking the beginning of one of the most mysterious and disconcerting cycles of natural evolution: death that prepares rebirth.

Death and renunciation are celebrated at this stage. The theme that imposes itself, with all its force, is that of sacrifice, not as the end of life, but as a necessary passage, in which aspects or stages of everything that is alive must die in order to be overcome, to transform itself into something absolutely new.

It is time for the energy to be exhausted in its concrete forms to prepare the qualitative leap, in the suprasensible region, in which this energy will be transformed, on the metaphysical plane, through a second birth. Everything that dies in Scorpio prepares a new life, integrated into the higher planes of consciousness.

    Astrological signs and myths: Scorpio

The emblem of this sign translates the fear it arouses: the scorpion animal itself, a symbol of death, which generates feelings of fear and/or repulsion, already present in the times of the ancient Babylonian empire. The planet that rules the sign is Pluto, named after the Roman god of the dead and prince of darkness (Hades, for the Greeks), who rules over shadows.

The main myth associated with Scorpio is the story of Orion, the hunter who was punished by the gods. There are several versions of the myth. Some say that Jupiter (Zeus, for the Greeks) was the father of Orion, others report that his father was the god Neptune (Poseidon, for the Greeks).

Of a violent nature, Orion lived as a hunter. Upon seeing the Pleiades (the seven daughters of the giant Atlas), Orion fell in love with them and began to pursue them. Distressed, they asked the gods to change their form, and were transformed into stars, becoming known in the heavens as the constellation that bears their name.

Orion, in addition to being violent, was also vindictive and possessed an unconscious tendency towards self-destruction, symbolized by the abuse of wine, which obscures reason. He died after provoking the wrath of the goddess Artemis who, to stop him, pushed him to meet a large scorpion. Stung by the poisonous stinger, Orion and the scorpion were also taken to the skies.

In Scorpio's psychological classification, the first emerging character trait is imperious instinct. The Scorpio native's aggressive drive is always out of the norm, as is a certain obstinacy and violence. They must struggle to control themselves, as they can easily lose control and become resentful and vindictive. Driven by an overbearing Eros, the native of this sign develops an individualism, sometimes exasperated and, often, he is intimately rebellious to any and all discipline.

Scorpio opens the path of the human who goes in search of the divine, but this arduous path is crossed by hells, swamps and all materiality and duality, experienced as a shadow.

On the positive side, Scorpio natives possess great tenacity and willpower. Thus, they can succeed in almost any endeavor. Imaginative, they have a lot of intuition and can be great leaders. They are very passionate and sensual people. Their sensitivity and intensity of feelings make their love relationships deep, magical and, at times, tragic.

Although they appear to be a little removed from the action, in fact, they observe everything with a critical eye. They take care of their friends, but if they are betrayed, it is difficult to recover their friendship and trust.
