8 Ayurvedic rituals that will improve your health

Ayurveda, an ancient Indian healing and health art, has become incredibly popular as it is being tested as a powerful healing method. The terms ayu (life) e veda (wisdom) together create the “wisdom of life”.

Ayurveda encompasses simple principles such as giving in a way that goes beyond a holistically healthy life.. If you want to be overflowed with vitality, Ayurveda has everything you need to make that long-awaited transformation in your life.

I have had deep discussions about the practices and science of Ayurveda with my students. But if you're eager to explore and adopt a few techniques before diving into Ayurveda proper, start by trying to incorporate these 8 essentials into your life. Together they direct the body, mind and spirit to their natural fullness..

1. Wake up before 6 am

For those who don't get enough sleep, waking up early seems like a contradiction. But waking up to the sunrise has numerous benefits: we feel more energetic, digestion improves, stress and depression take a break, and even the biological clock is reset. You will feel fuller and more enlightened. Try and see for yourself.

2. Practice gratitude first thing in the morning

Instead of starting your day with a to-do list, which instantly brings you into the stress and chaos of everyday life, wake up grateful.

Suppress the urge to look at your phone and try saying “ohm” as you exhale. Doing this automatically connects you with the vibrations of the universe. Some call it God. I call it universal intelligence.

3. Gargle with sesame oil

Gargling sesame oil is an immune practice that has saved my voice more than once. Just heat up some of the pure oil, then gargle with water for a few minutes (or as long as you can). And spit. Gargle again with warm water. Try to do this daily for at least a week.

4. Massage yourself

Doing abhyanga or self-massage for 10 minutes a day can improve blood flow and reduce stress, stiffness, and pain. It is relaxing for both the mind and the body. I recommend using sesame oil, as it has natural anti-inflammatories and immunity-boosting ingredients.

5. Stop buying bottled water

Plastic bottles are not good for anyone except the people who make them. Try boiling the water and then cooling it. This makes the fluid more digestive and helps drain the lymphatic system.

6. Replace butter and oil with ghee

Cooking with clarified butter or ghee is an easy way to aid digestion. Ghee is renowned for improving immunity and having anti-aging properties. Plus, it's delicious and nutritious. Try it!

7. Eat your last meal two or three hours before bed

Late-night snacks or fancy meals too close to bedtime can impair your digestion and make it difficult for you to sleep. Eat as close to sunrise as possible and plan your dinner a few hours before bed.

8. Make mealtime an event

Most of us use the finest plates and silverware for “special occasions”. But flowers, candles and fine cutlery enhance the experience and elevate the senses. The pleasure and fun of eating add an important psychological component to digestion.
