What is the shelf life of a meal?

    You come home tired, hungry, and when you open the fridge, there's a strange, unpleasant smell to knock you over on your back. This is a pretty bad situation, but more common than it sounds. With the ease of keeping everything in the fridge, we end up forgetting when a food is there even for weeks. In order not to make the mistake of losing food at home, here are some shelf life tips for some of the main foods in a simple meal:



    What is the shelf life of a meal?

    White rice

    If it is raw, in a tightly closed container and away from moisture, it can last indefinitely. However, if it gets wet and any sign of mold appears, the entire container should be discarded mercilessly. The tip here is to leave it in a closet away from any traces of moisture in the house. As for cooked rice, it can last up to 5 days in the fridge, but the more days spent, the more it will lose its flavor, so we recommend a maximum of 3 days.

    Chicken

    One of the easiest meats to prepare, chicken is one of the most common foods on the table in Espaรฑol. It can't take too long to eat it. If frozen before baking and wrapped in aluminum foil or film, it can keep in the freezer for months. Once cooked, a maximum of two days in the fridge and no longer.

    Egg

    The champion of bad smell after spoiling deserves care not to contaminate your fridge. Raw, the ideal is to keep them inside the box that they come in the fridge (and not on the door, because the temperature is very high). Once cooked, it can be kept in a tightly sealed container for up to a week.



    Red meat

    If they are in that vacuum sealed package, they can last up to a month in the fridge. It only lasts for two days outside of this packaging. If you need to store it for longer than that, freeze it and leave it in the freezer. Once cooked, the ideal is to leave it in the fridge for a maximum of three days.

    Bean

    Once cooked, beans can last a maximum of three days in the fridge, stored in a tightly closed container. Eating beans stored longer than that is very risky. Avoid taking that risk.


    Milk

    If it is pasteurized milk, it should be consumed within one day after opening. In the case of long-life milk, it can last from three to four days.
