This Is Us: Why should you watch this series?

“This Is Us” is one of the most acclaimed series among the public and critics and is available in España on Amazon's Prime platform. Launched in 2016, from the beginning it surprised viewers with its plot, full of simplicity, but with a depth and a capacity for everyday identification that gets to be disturbing from time to time.

In this aspect, it's even something positive, because it's a series that allows for a huge reflection: you watch it while reflecting on various events in life, getting familiar with the characters and their stories.

The plot is told, for more than 5 seasons, in different timelines, which are the past, present and future of the three main characters: Randall, Kate and Kevin. Their lives are narrated with strong connection to their parents, their upbringing and all their successes and failures.

“This Is Us” surprises, with each new episode, for its simplicity and excellent narrative of the Pearsons' family routine, in which anyone can identify with at least one drama, one happiness, one conquest, one defeat, in short, the many familiar aspects told in the average 50 minutes of each episode.

Quickly introducing the plot: a couple unlikely to end up together, Rebecca and Jack Pearson meet casually, demonstrating that love relationships can be surprising. They don't follow a ready-made story, and end up forming a beautiful family, with their three twin children, Randall, Kate and Kevin.

From the beginning, we can see that the formation of this trio is not as most would imagine, but the entire process and story of creation is told in a very fluid way, and with each new season and episode, there are new layers, gradually deeper, allowing us to get to know each of the characters.

Jack Pearson is a man who, above all else, loves being a father. From the first episodes, you can see the power and integrity of him, who had a difficult childhood and adolescence, with a bad example of a father in the house, but who ends up becoming the hero of the Pearson family. The entire trajectory of this character teaches us about resilience, patience, the power of hurt and rancor, in addition to making us think about the great influence of having a father present.

Rebecca, on the other hand, is that loving and caring mother, but who gave up some old desires to create a good family, without ever ceasing to be the pillar of the three descendants, teaching us about altruism and resilience, in a very different way than shows Jack's story.

The children are as different as possible: there is the one who loves sports, the one who has an affinity for the arts and the nerd, super studious. And the central story is about them, the families they create, always showing the influence that the creation and the whole childhood plot and the upheavals of adolescence and adulthood had on who they are today. Their entire trajectory – individual and collective – teaches the viewer about dreams, traumas, losses, gains and, above all, the value of family.

After a few seasons, it's not just about the Pearson family's present and past. We are also surprised by flashes of the future – some very distant, which take time to work, and others more palpable, which pique the viewer's curiosity and help make the series so interesting and full of emotion.

With this, the series reminds the viewer, at all times, that calm is always necessary, because life will probably continue to follow paths that are not necessarily the ones you imagined, but that are not necessarily negative.

A series to cry

If you've never watched "This Is Us" and are interested in the plot, have a tissue handy while watching, because the actors' acting is so well done - and the narrative is nothing left behind - that tears flow naturally, no only in single episodes. Because the tendency is that each season guarantees a good cry, the ones that make your chest tremble, and you can't even play the next episode, so much tension.

But it's not just tears of sadness. There are several moments of great happiness, when you can genuinely feel the emotion that is being passed on. The truth is that this series is focused on exactly what is purest in our relationships: our emotions at each stage of our lives. And she shows us different ways of dealing with daily events, using different characters, from the same perspective of a situation.

A story that tells stories

One of the most interesting aspects of the series is that whenever you think it's over, that nothing more can be developed, the author and production surprises you, and you find yourself again curious and incredulous to know what happens in the next episode.

The narrative is rich not only for the incredible performance of each actor and actress involved, but also for the impeccable choice of costumes and even a soundtrack that doesn't seem to make a difference at first, but, when we realize it, ties everything we are watching even more. .

Even after different characters appeared, we managed to delve even more into each story, and we are constantly reminded of the beginning of everything, with scenes from Jack and Rebecca's past, reaching the present day, in which the characters even deal with the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19, which devastated the world, and flashes of a future, which sharpen our curiosity.
