The wonderful experience of bringing children and the elderly together

An asylum, a home for the elderly, sometimes refers to a lonely home. Even though family and friends come to visit their relatives, it seems that joy is always lacking. An energy that captivates the environment, space and life of those who spend their days there.

With a view to making this home more joyful, a Providence Mount St. Vincent, in Seattle, in the United States, where about 400 elderly people live, receives children during the week to improve this relationship. That's right, the joining of children and the elderly seems to be more than a good idea, it's sure to leave hearts sometimes abandoned, firmer and stronger.

Energy x lonely life

You can't put everything in the same box and say that the life of an elderly person is just wonderful. Mainly by choice of the family when they are placed in nursing homes, they end up feeling lonely, even if the environment is good and the family visits them, abandonment is present.

The wonderful experience of bringing children and the elderly togetherand ally to energy of children, who jump, play, dream and not be sad, seems to be the half that was missing in the recipe. In this elderly center, where more than 400 residents live, children spend five days a week interacting with the elderly and doing activities, from playing, dancing, telling stories and going to the park, for example. This really looks like a transformation for early childhood education.

Is it possible to think about it further?

Of course, children have a burst of energy that is the envy of anyone, but this great idea presents a great opportunity for children to know the limitations that time imposes on people, and elderly people who see in children a way of living , smile and remember that they are still alive and can feel happiness.

With so many homes with sad and lonely residents, children would really be a gift to this space. It is a grandiose initiative to carry out an experience of this magnitude, which allows for so many learnings, where patience and discovery must always be on the rise.

At the same time, trained professionals need to be integrated into this relationship. Just letting things happen would not be the way out either, as many elderly people need more attention and sometimes lack patience, but we praise such a humanitarian initiative!

Experience that turns into a documentary

This incredible experience served as an inspiration for director Evan Briggs who gave birth to the documentary. "Present Perfect”, which tries to show the aging process that everyone will go through sooner or later.

For the creators of the documentary, this transformation is visible. Many seniors are downcast or sleepy when children are not, however, as soon as they enter the field a new energy comes into play, in the lives of these seniors who have more reason to smile and live like this.

This kind of accomplishment makes a difference in the world! Our congratulations!
