Solidarity: new awakening for a new time

We are going through difficult times, hours of fair concerns and profound transformation of humanity as a whole. Many people are desperate because they have no idea how to face this new reality. Information is the best tool for us to adopt effective preventive measures. Look for reliable sources, do not pay attention to currents published on social media; if, on the one hand, they can be useful as alerts, many malicious people use these platforms to generate panic and disinformation.

Read a lot, but a lot, compiling material for reflection and analysis. Just because you saw an article published in the media does not mean that the information is correct or scientifically proven. Compare articles, check mainly where the information comes from: research the sources, pay attention to the publication date, access the links.

Sometimes taken-for-granted information can be outdated in a matter of days as new data is analyzed and confirmed.

Be wary of news without the proper sources; do a careful investigation before passing on what you've seen.

Take appropriate preventive measures to stop the spread of the disease. One of those very smart attitudes (and this should be done all the time, not just now) is to be careful when entering the house – do you normally wash your hands when coming in from the street? Do you separate the clothes you used and put them in the wash? And where are your shoes – are you in the habit of leaving them near the door, for example? Or do you hang around with them up and down the house?

Physical health cannot be neglected. Prepare an exercise routine, such as gentle stretches, according to your physical ability. Sun and adequate food, regular rest periods.

We must still remember that one of the most important aspects for everyone is keeping our mental health up to date. There are sites that offer interesting courses for a good price – some even free! Shake off mental laziness, make controlled use of the video game (try not to exaggerate the time you spend playing); read a book, exchange ideas, learn a new and interesting subject.

We may have impediments to being physically meeting with our friends, but we have the resources to see each other and talk through the internet. Don't forget how important it is to keep virtual contacts positive. Talk to friends, invite them for a chat, remember to always make yourself available to listen. A good word from you can change someone's day.

Meditation and prayer - whatever your devotional line - help to maintain spiritual health.

The big watchword now is: SOLIDARITY. Have you ever asked that older neighbor of yours if he needs something? How about organizing a rotation among friends in your condo to replenish the fridge, avoiding going out without needing to go home? Are your purchases really necessary? Do you really need 150 packages of toilet paper and 30 liters of alcohol gel?

I can make a difference by adopting supportive attitudes, without harming myself and my loved ones. And that will be an example for the new generations, who will have to deal with a world that is increasingly cold and lacking in human contact. If we are to survive, we have to decide what will define us as a species going forward.
