Of the bonds that life takes care of… to unite and strengthen!

I am teacher. I have already written to you about this, mainly reporting my passion and pride in being the bridge between learning and the student. The one who will help each one of those who enter my room to better understand and understand a certain subject, so that they can then continue on their path of knowledge. This is the life I wanted, want and follow.

But for some time now I have noticed something different in this “position”. This bridge thing, you know?

It seems that my students have been my bridge, because with each one of them I have learned more and more. And with them I am strengthened, enlightened, evolved and awakened to a knowledge without limits or without borders. Ah, without borders!

I, in my humblest opinion, thought it was another Portuguese class for a Colombian woman. I was anxious, after all I would teach my language to a foreigner. I felt a certain pride in doing so when telling about my country of origin, its customs and its history. The tone of the classes has by no means been monotonous or extremely serious. Life presented me with a student as “crazy” as I am. Our classes have been a mix of knowledge, engagement and discoveries!

My student has taught me that I, her “Portuguese teacher”, loves her España and makes a tremendous effort not to let the tears fall when she reads a poem by Clarice Lispector or a poem by Vinícius, because getting emotional… that's what she does! On the hard face!

My student teaches me in each class that I like to tell you that my España is such a rich, beautiful country, with so many beautiful people and wonderful songs, in addition to having a rich culture and enormous potential. She teaches me that I am very proud of my country, and when I tell her more about our history, I seem to be telling the story of a distant, imposing, important kingdom. And he really is!

Teach me that I have more stories to tell than I could ever imagine.

And nothing goes unnoticed to her! Facts from my childhood make you laugh and my experience can add to you some knowledge.

And my student teaches me that her Colombia is beautiful, safe, happy and that she is waiting for me! Yay! That they also go through some of the problems we have here, that their family is beautiful, just like mine, that their sister wants to learn Portuguese too, that life goes on for them as it does for us, that we are all brothers and union will always make strength!

Ah, my student taught me something: that a classroom is more than a physical space, is a magical opportunity for people to see from the same perspective (under the same gaze) something that attracts them and cultivate the essence of knowledge that unites and elevates us. No story or passage of our lives has been or has been in vain. We can learn from mistakes and successes, especially from others. When we have the humility to share our desires and perspectives, bonds can be built, in the classroom or outside it, but what matters is harmony, truth and emotion.

I hope the exchange was fair and that I taught you in the same proportion that I received affection, affection and friendship! Muchas gracias, mi niña!
