Mantra Tara Verde: Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha

Words are powerful... and everything we think and say reverberates in the Universe, materializing both what is positive and what is negative. It is up to us to know what we want for the world and, above all, for ourselves.

Our words can trigger our fears. Or they could be their cure. We can be our own blockade or we can overcome all obstacles in our mind, especially those that undermine our courage and keep us from our goals.

And where do you get the strength to attract such energy? Perhaps the answer lies in mantras, those words or verses that, when we repeat them, provide us with positivity, the power of realization, relaxation and enlightenment.

Who is Tara Verde?

When it comes to our fears, we can count on the help and light of Buddhist entities such as Green Tara, who have the power to save us along our journey in the ocean of existence, the cycle of birth, death and rebirth – known in religion as samsara.

Tara Verde is the name of one of the most well-known goddesses in Buddhism. She is a deity that represents universal compassion, enlightenment and virtuous actions, that is, she is a symbol of kindness and gentleness.

The mantra dedicated to this deity is the Tara Verde mantra, which frees us from the inner dangers of our mind (the word “tara” means “liberator”). This goddess is able to free a person from fears, dangers and negative feelings such as jealousy, insecurity, pride, hatred, stubbornness, among others.

It is of such great power that it is capable of operating great transformations in our thoughts. No wonder it means “mental instrument”.

Meaning of the Green Tara mantra

The Tara Verde mantra is a ten-syllable mantra. Every time it is chanted, it allows a connection with the goddess.

His lines are: “Om tare tuttare ture soha”

  • “Om” are the immeasurable qualities of the body, speech and mind of enlightened beings.
  • “Tare” is that which frees.
  • "All" eliminates todos os medos.
  • “Ture” grants every success.
  • “Soha” means: “May the blessings of Tara that are contained in the mantra 'om tare tuttare ture' take root in our hearts.”

In the Tibetan language, Tara is known as Drolma, the savior, being the manifestation of the feminine energy of the enlightened mind: wisdom. That is, it is enlightened, flexible and practical wisdom. It is fast energy, present in the moment. In addition to being the release of fear and everything!

When practiced, this mantra helps overcome fear and anxiety. A Tara devotee believes that the mantra can grant wishes, eliminate suffering and bring all kinds of happiness.

Liberation from the eight fears

Green Tara is the feminine energy of intuition and creation. When we develop this energy within us, we can have more vitality and willingness to carry out life projects. Tara clears the mental obstacles created by fear, so her energy helps us put ideas into action.

An idea that is not put into practice is just a thought. When we put it into practice, we can give life and energy to thoughts. Thus, reciting the mantra helps us to eliminate internal obstacles like fear and resentment, bringing peace, faith and courage.

Upon being called, the goddess Tara instantly saves us from eight specific calamities. Dalai Lama lists these eight calamities and interprets them as corresponding representatives of defects, faults, or obscurities:

  • The lions and pride;
  • Wild elephants and delusions;
  • Forest fires and hatred;
  • Snakes and envy;
  • Thieves and fanatical opinions;
  • Prisons and avarice;
  • Floods and lust;
  • Demons and doubts.

How to do the Green Tara Meditation

For the practice itself, the ideal is to look for a calm and quiet place, so you can focus on the problem you want to solve. Close your eyes and breathe deeply, slowing down until you feel relaxed. Then recite the mantra as many times as you can:

"OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA" (pronounced "Om Tare Tutare Ture Sorrá").

Each of these syllables carries a distinct energy. “Om”, for example, presents the relationship between body, mind and the universal divinity. “Tare” encourages the release of a person's sufferings. “Tuttare” indicates protection against internal and external dangers. “Ture” is a word that generates peace and guarantees physical health. Finally, “Soha” is responsible for strengthening long-term protection after repeating the mantra.

Reciting the mantra marks the beginning of the Tara Verde meditation – chant it as many times as you can, by counting the 108-bead japamala. Next, you need to focus on silent meditation – visualize Tara and contemplate her, to have her around during this process.

As Tibetan Buddhism is the most ritualistic of the strands, it may be that this meditation has a longer duration, being composed of several parts, adding to the practice itself the prayers that precede it and the complementary prayers and aspirations.

Therefore, you can complement this ritual by reciting the hundred-syllable mantra and ending with a prayer to Tara Verde. But just chanting the mantra and meditation itself can help us in this mission to heal our mental fears.

This mantra is able to encourage tranquility and security. This occurs both because it mentions the goddess and because it presents the color green, a symbol of vitality for Buddhists. That is, it is ideal to combat the fear we feel of what we cannot control.

By chanting the mantra of Tara Verde, you will feel the power that each of its syllables will have in your inner transformation. End your fears now, count on the powerful energy of this deity and show yourself that you have the potential to direct your life to the destination you want!
