Holistic Motherhood – Mother and self-care

It's our choices that show who we really are, much more than our abilities." Albus Dumbledore

Nurturing our spirit, our inner life, is the most effective way to create the quality of life and connection in family life that we all seek. Self-care allows you to live with the best of you instead of what's left of you.

Motherhood has the first mark on our children and therefore a big mark on society. However, motherhood is one of the least valued and most invisible segments of our culture. The universe of mothers lives largely unnoticed. It's time to value and enlighten mothers everywhere.

For this social change to occur, it must start at the source, with us mothers changing our view of ourselves and motherhood, and thus, changing the relationship with everyone around us, including our children, and this change will reflect in society.

The first step is get out of the role of “martyr” and rediscover the essence that was buried by the social standards of a patriarchal society. My intention is that you can look at the paradigms you unconsciously absorbed and start a journey towards a satisfying life for you and your family.

Meditation (5 min/day) can also be a great ally in this process.

The essence: Remember how you felt when you saw your child for the first time or when you see a newborn. In a book I read about motherhood, the author wisely pointed out this technique to bring out that special feeling that helps us to be fully in the present moment and connect with your authentic self.

Remember that in the authentic and essential self, BEING must be valued, not just Doing. Make space to get in touch with and pay attention to what makes your soul overflow with satisfaction and what brings you a sense of fulfillment. Start prioritizing these moments in your life. For this, it is necessary to live in the present moment (mindfulness). To better understand this process, visit: “Simplify your life – Less distraction, more intention”

Feelings: Allow yourself to feel, you are a human being and there is nothing wrong with feeling angry, frustrated or tired, the most important thing is that you bring them to consciousness and use this process in your favor for self-knowledge. Don't run away from your feelings by trying to distract yourself with activities that don't feed your being and sabotage your quality of life.

Self-Forgiveness and Gratitude: Both should be treated as a journey and not simply an event. Forgiving yourself and being grateful is a daily decision, just like showering, brushing your teeth, or exercising.

Do the best you can with your understanding. So when you understand better, do better.” Maya Angelou

Are You Enough: Don't tie your personal value to your productivity! I know this is the message that society (in imbalance) sends us daily and that most people unconsciously absorb and propagate. This is precisely what needs to be changed for your life to change, to bring unconscious values that no longer serve us to consciousness. Be the peace, be the love your children need, be understanding, be present in your life, be the memory your children will keep. Accept yourself and the people around you for who they are.

Priorities: Once you get in touch with what makes you feel alive and well, set your priorities and use the time to your advantage. Keep in your life the activities that nourish and not those that take away peace. I, for example, don't watch TV or flip through magazines that only bombard us with false ideas and direct us in the opposite direction of a full life. But I watch interviews, lectures, listen to Podcasts and read selected materials that enrich my life experience. Choose your activities consciously!

I know it's hard, Mom! I know it can be hard to get up every day and have the little ones depending on you. I know it's hard to feel that sometimes your world is small.

I want to remind you, you are your little ones' world.

You are the support, the home, the comfort. You are everything to them and I hope that even on your hard days they know how special you are.

Especially for the little ones.” Anonymous
