Adoption: I adopted

Adoption, how to deal with the child's doubts

The dream of increasing the family is the reality of many couples. But unfortunately we know that through adoption most cases are long, bureaucratic and time consuming. We can say that adoption is a pregnancy lasting more than nine months and that it takes place not in the womb, but in the heart. Until that process comes to an end.

The end of a bureaucratic cycle and the journey as parents, but what now? And when do the questions start to arise? In my case it was β€œMommy, why are we different colors?” (laughs).

Most adoption cases are for children under 6 years old, in the near future it is normal and natural for the child to ask where he came from, whether because of comments from family members, physical differences or any reason whatsoever. The key to this moment is love.

  • Say that it was not generated in the belly, but in the heart;
  • If you have any information about the biological parents, do not hide it;
  • Demonstrate that the child was long-awaited and wanted;
  • Do not excite hatred, rancor or any kind of negative feeling towards the biological parents;
  • Don't put biological parents as bad people or enemies;
  • Don't be annoyed by the questions, it's natural;

Always make love clear.

Love and understanding were extremely important in my case, I was adopted as a child by a simple family, but full of love! I grew up listening to how much I was wanted, planned. I always knew that my father was murdered and my mother tried to abort me, but my parents always asked me to empathize and not judge her, in the situation she was in, she did the best for me. I remember that as a child, I LOVED telling my classmates that I was adopted, even the teachers stopped to listen to me and I always loved my story.

Teach your children that this is just another way to beget, in the heart. <3
