Practice Iyengar Yoga

For the most unsuspecting, yoga can be considered just a sport that also works the mind. However, know that there are different types of this practice, with different characteristics and indications. Ideally, you should know the different types of yoga before deciding to practice and choose the one that most closely matches your personality, your characteristics and your goals.

To help you with this choice, in this article we will talk a little about the Iyengar Yoga. The name comes from the surname of the master Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar, better known as BKS Iyengar, who was responsible for the implementation and creation of this modality, notably with therapeutic principles. It is a modality that aims to make the practice possible for any type of person, regardless of their physical limitations. It is the type of yoga that uses, in addition to the body and the focus on breathing and postures, some extra materials called props that help the practitioner's goal. In this way, it is possible to increase the practitioner's confidence, which allows for better performed positions and prolonged time.

It consists of 200 postures (asanas) and 14 breathing exercises (pranayamas), all done slowly and with great attention. The main objective is to adapt your breathing to the movements for as long as necessary, focusing on well-being and the correct alignment of your body.

Among the benefits are better breathing, an intimate knowledge of your body's capabilities and movements, greater elasticity, strength and flexibility. It is a modality that works individually with each person, which guarantees an adequate treatment and with a focus on limits, deficiencies and intended objectives. Iyengar Yoga is a good way to get started in yoga to gain stability and confidence, especially for people who are not used to exercise and older people. It is also a detailed and thorough practice. If you are looking for an initial practice and need help in curing an illness or want to increase your ability to concentrate, this is your modality!
