Visuddha — Balance the Throat Chakra and transform your communication

The throat chakra, or visuddha, is the fifth chakra, known as the purifier. It is responsible for purifying our blood and also makes the connection between the lower and upper chakras. In this article, we will explore a little more about this energy center that is related to our communication. Follow us on this journey!

Or what does visuddha mean?

The word “visuddha” originates from Sanskrit and means “especially pure” or “great purity; great purifier.” Another spelling is “vishuddha”.

This chakra is white in color and has sixteen petals that are purple or smoky purple, a gray lavender. Here, the modes of consciousness (or vrittis) are just six: communication, calm, purity, a melodious voice, and command of speech and mantras. The other ten petals are characterized by sound roots, related to three bijas (PHAT, HUM and OMN) and seven animals (elephant, donkey, cuckoo, horse, goat, ox and peacock).

In the center, a sky-blue triangle points downwards, and inside it, a white circle representing the Full Moon. His bija mantra is HAM.

Bijas mantras are sacred sound vibrations that carry the power of a certain energy. When pronounced, these sounds potentiate, unlock or activate the energy of the chakra to which they are connected.

Features of the throat chakra

Visuddha is located in the neck, more precisely at the base of the larynx. It is also associated with the ear (hearing) and mouth (speech), and is therefore considered the chakra of communication and expression.

The glands related to this chakra are the thyroid and parathyroid. In this way, everything that refers to the processes regulated by them – such as body weight, mood, disposition, appetite, sleep and the regulation of some minerals – is linked to the fifth chakra. It is also your responsibility for the health of your throat and neck, in addition to the proper functioning of your hearing.

In emotional matters, visuddha governs the way we understand the Universe and people, as well as our capacity for expression and creativity. It is through it that we show feelings (such as fear, love and anger), thoughts and reactions to external stimuli.

Throat chakra color, element and stone

There are several factors associated with the chakras that help to establish balance or even strengthen their energies - the main ones are color, the element of nature and stone. Every chakra has its own.

The color of serenity and health

The throat chakra is represented by light blue, which can be accompanied by silver, as well as being close to blue-green. Blue is the color of trust, serenity and empathy. It's the only color that doesn't convey any negative feelings.

Associated with green, blue gains aspects of healing, energy, vitality and hope. Silver, on the other hand, as it has a light gray heritage, brings us to reflection and self-centeredness. Its brightness (which differs from gray, which is opaque) refers to magical forces, patience and self-control. It's a balancing color.

There are several ways to use color to help balance chakras. In the case of the larynx, two forms can be very useful. In the first, just close your eyes and take breaths, imagining the blue in the region associated with it, repeating HAM three times. The other way is to imagine the parts of the body governed by it (thyroid, bronchi, lungs, throat and neck) in blue, mentalizing a cleansing of all bad fluids.

subtlety of vibrations

Visuddha makes us perceive things through vibrations. It is no wonder that the sense associated with it is hearing, which is connected to the element that governs this chakra: ether – or, from Sanskrit, Akasha. In the throat chakra, all the elements of the lower chakras are refined in their purest essence. Water, Fire, Earth and Air dissolve in Akasha.

This element has a strong relationship with the search for true knowledge and, when manifested, the being achieves pure consciousness and self-knowledge.

crystals and protection

There are several stones associated with Visuddha, especially the light blue ones – such as turquoise, blue topaz, blue quartz, larimar, kyanite and aquamarine.

The role of stones and crystals is to balance the chakras, as well as helping to restore self-healing. Their action takes place through electromagnetism and the vibrations they emit have the power to purify, align and activate the energy of the chakras, helping to enhance their properties.

To get the most out of chakra stones, it is best to practice meditation with each stone placed exactly on the chakra with which it is associated, and all must be aligned. Make sure you keep them in this position for an average of 30 minutes.

Don't forget to clean your crystals every time you use them, washing them under running water. You can also recharge their energy by placing them in the sun for 1 hour or so. Cleanse and energize your stones whenever you feel the need.

Using your chakra stone in conjunction with the properties of chromotherapy, you ensure the balance of your energies and also ward off bad vibrations in any circumstance or environment.

What happens when the throat chakra is out of balance?

As we discussed earlier, there are several ways to balance and strengthen our chakras. And this is an essential practice, since health problems – physical or emotional – can throw us off our axis, also unbalancing our energy centers.

As visuddha is linked to the thyroid, ears and throat, any imbalance that it presents will lead to hormonal disorders, goiter, respiratory, hearing and dental problems, throat infections, stiff neck, excessive weight gain or loss and skin diseases.

In the emotional field, disharmony can bring difficulties to express yourself, anxiety, lack of self-control, negativity and exacerbated shyness.

When he is hyperactive, the lack of filter in speaking things can be a problem, as well as the lack of judgment and verbosity. When it is blocked, there is a tendency to “swallow frogs” (including the fear of expressing one's own opinion) and the inability to express feelings (which can result in loss of opportunities or even resentment).

In this way, the only way is to achieve balance – neither hyperactive nor too idle. Only in this way will our physical, mental and spiritual health always be protected.

When visuddha is balanced, the effects are clear. We are able to express ourselves with clarity and self-confidence, showing great ease in public speaking and persuasion. In addition, we are able to do things with originality and energy, we express ourselves freely, we acquire more knowledge and self-knowledge, and we are more generous and empathetic.

In the body, this harmony translates into better quality in the airways, balance in thyroid hormones. Throat, lungs and ears are functioning correctly. The health of the cervical spine, teeth and vocal cords is also preserved.

A good help to enhance this balance is aromatherapy. The most suitable essential oils for this chakra are: fennel, patchouli, cypress, grapefruit, chamomile, rosemary, ylang-ylang and basil. They help to unlock our difficulty in public speaking, to protect our vocal cords and also to better understand the laws of the Universe.

Without a doubt, everything we mentioned here is extremely valid and effective to keep the chakras harmonized, working well and protecting our energies. But you have a duty to do more than that. Take care of your body, eat well, avoid too much alcoholic beverages, stay away from cigarettes, drink plenty of water and practice physical exercises.

To unite mind and body in a journey towards integrated health, a good tip is to practice yoga – an activity that has a powerful connection with the chakras. And to keep your thoughts in tune with good energies, try meditating! It really works and connects you with your self, seeking to bring greater self-control and self-confidence.

Take care of this abode we call the body. He needs to be treated with care and respect to return us in the same coin, providing conditions for us to maintain our health and integrity – physical, emotional and spiritual. So respect yourself, take care of yourself, love yourself!

Getting to know the chakras better

Chakras are energy centers connected along our spine and their function is to receive and emit vital energy at certain points in our body. They work continuously, transferring these energies between our physical body and the material and spiritual planes. They are a form of food for our aura.

Although there are passages in the Vedas (holy books of Hinduism) mentioning 32 chakras, and others even counting up to 88 thousand, the consensus is that there are seven main ones: basic, sacral, solar plexus, laryngeal, frontal and coronary.

Keeping the chakras in balance ensures not only a healthy body full of good vibes but also a full life, endowed with self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-love.
