How to release negative energies with the help of exhalation

Whenever you experience anger, fear, anguish, anxiety or any other negative feeling, a leftover of these feelings is "stuck" in your energy field. This is one of the reasons you get so exhausted when you go through very stressful situations. This energy residue does not leave overnight and ends up affecting your thoughts and well-being in the following days. So it is important to release these negative energies in some way.

Some aspects of yoga work with a breathing technique that can help in this process of getting rid of these harmful energies. But, before doing the proposed exercise, it is necessary to recognize that you have something to get rid of.

Every cleaning process is only possible if you recognize that you need to get rid of something. Imagine a dirty and messy house. Usually, you won't pay attention to a hidden corner of the house where dirt goes unnoticed. So it is with each person's energy field. You need to reflect on what negative thoughts, feelings and emotions are pervading your energy field. For this step, looking for a method of self-knowledge is always recommended, as we often cannot understand what is wrong without external help. If you already have some practice that helps at this point, use that to your advantage and reflect for a few minutes to bring to awareness what needs to be cleared.

Once you recognize what you want to eliminate from your energy field, do this breathing exercise to help clear it:

  • Sit with your spine straight, comfortably. It can be on a chair or on the floor cross-legged;
  • Inhale slowly until your lungs are full;
  • Now exhale slowly until you run out of air. When this happens, hold your breath for three seconds;
  • After holding your breath, exhale until the rest of the air left in your lungs is gone;
  • Repeat the exercise five times. If you are more familiar with it and practice yoga often, you can even repeat this exercise ten times.
