Astrological Signs and Myths – Gemini

Gemini: from May 21 to June 20

Ending spring, the constellation of Gemini marks the skies of the Northern Hemisphere, where two great stars shine: Castor and Pollux. The natural cycle stabilizes: in Aries, the energy was pure chaos and explosive, in Taurus, the energy began to be received by the Earth. Gemini brings energy to structure and harmony.

Complementary opposites unite in this sign. There are several myths that express this complementary duality: Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, Romulus and Remus, etc. In these myths we find negative and positive polarities, good and evil, male and female, Yang and Yin. Contrary pairs differentiate and begin to oppose each other. Psychologically, Gemini represents the differentiation of origin, which leads to awareness and individuality.

In Gemini is the symbol of duality in similarity and individuality, which always come to an end in a dynamic creative tension. In the myth of the twins Castor and Pollux, we find this duality: born from the same egg, Pollux is a divine being, while Castor is mortal.. Their mother was Leda, sister of the famous Helena, who was famous for causing the Trojan War.

Castor, impulsive and greedy (representing the strength of instinct) and Pollux, spiritually higher and serene (representing intellect), were inseparable and participated in several adventures, such as the expedition in search of the golden fleece (analyzed in the myth of Aries, the first astrological sign).

Castor was killed in battle, and Pollux asked his father, Jupiter (Zeus, to the Greeks), to offer his life for his brother. Jupiter allowed the two brothers to live alternately, spending one day on Earth and another in the celestial abode. Another version of this myth tells that the two brothers were rewarded for their mutual affection by being placed among the stars.

Astrological Signs and Myths – GeminiCastor's death symbolizes the overcoming of undifferentiated instinct to reach reason and spirit. Thus, it represents the Freudian confrontation between the pleasure principle and the reality principle. It is the expression of the duality that is debated between internal contents and external requests.

Just as Pollux is distressed by the possibility of being eternally separated from his brother, the native of this sign carries with him the archetype of splitting (separation) and in the face of evidence that requests the personality in one sense or another, he can be carried away by anguish. of separation/loss, if there is no pacification between the opposites.

Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods, being an air sign, evidencing the ability to respond quickly but selectively to all stimuli received from the surrounding environment.

Twins were seen as the patrons of dance and poets. They occupied an important place in relation to the beginning of a new epoch, as they symbolized the beginning of all births, in space and time. They also represent the desire to know and the discomfort that this desire brings, because knowing does not only mean assimilating and enriching oneself with the real, but also implies abandoning unconsciousness and illusions. Reasoning prevents these natives from simply surrendering to an experience, as they have a high instinct for survival.

Mobility and speed are very striking characteristics of Gemini natives. Their intelligence is lively and flexible, capable of adapting, but also of avoiding deep contacts or overly involving experiences. Creative, gifted with artistic talent, fickle and changeable in love experiences, they are communicative and have a lot of vitality. They hate solitude and are always looking for new things, they love to read and do different things at the same time. If they live their negative side, they can become shallow and fickle, and they can become calculating, nervous and demanding.
